Equestrian In The Water Photo Workshop

Article by A. Jacobs May 06 2009

When I received the Email that said there were two last minute cancellations to an Equestrian in the Water photo workshop I can't fully describe my excitement. I was disappointed when I was unable to make an earlier workshop, but this was my chance.

Last Fall, I had the privelege of being part of an Equestrian workshop and I wanted to get some more experience from veteran photographer Alton Vance. Vance is the minister at Norco Christian Church but he is an award winning photographer who has begun to specialize in Equestrian subjects.

The group met at the church where Vance shared some of his shooting tips and told us that he had several models lined up for the afternoon shoot. He showed samples of his work and recommendations for camera settings, safety precautions, and how priveledged we were to be allowed to photographs horses and their riders in the water.

What followed next was a quick trip to a horse trail that led down to the Santa Ana River.

This is what local residents would have seen if they were in the area. There were so many cameras pointed in one direction some may have thought that there was a Hollywood celebrity in the area.

Here are samples from the earlier workshop.

If you want to see some outstanding photography visit www.nhislight.com.  This is Vance's photography website.

The workshop was hosted by the Inland Empire Professional Photographer and Videographer (IEPPV).

Enjoy the photos that I was able to capture from the very willing and cooperative models (and their riders).
